1807 Ebeneezer Corliss House – Yarmouth

The Ebeneezer Corliss house built in 1807 boasts a fireplace in every room, wide plank floors, and unique balusters with a cross – a nod to the fact that the house is surrounded by churches. As a lover of plaster and lathe, we were also intent on saving the original “accordion lathe” – practiced before the 1830s - 3/8” boards, split with an axe longitudinally and stretched open where two coats of plaster were then applied. A new barn/garage was added with a master suite above. Flooring in the new barn/garage consisted of the 200+ year-old pine floors from the attic which were transplanted and refinished. Old newel posts and doors were placed in the new section and the kitchen got a full overhaul. The ground floor mudroom got a new slate floor and old beams (still notched with roman numerals) were used to make the frame for the slate sink. An amazing house with an amazing history.
